13 Peaks Part 6: Chapman's Peak with Helen Gosnell

  • 10 Aug 2026
  • 09:00 - 14:00
  • Hout Bay

GRADE 3B, MEDIUM PACE

Please note that this hike takes place on a public holiday Monday.

Part 6/12: Taking advantage of our Monday holiday, we'll spend a day in the mountains. We'll start off with a walk along the contour path to get to the Chapman's Peak fork. Chapman's Peak is a steady, and not too steep, climb with beautiful views. If we're lucky, we may even see some whales. Our descent will be via the same route, but we'll end at the Chapman's Peak trailhead. The hike is 9 km with 660 m elevation gain and 560 m loss. It is one of the gentler parts of this challenge. Car shuttling or Uber will be necessary. Today's hike marks the halfway point of the challenge.

About the 13 peaks: trail runner Ryan Sandes developed a circular route that covers 13 iconic peaks in Cape Town. We will complete the challenge over 7 months. All hikes are open to everyone, whether or not you are doing the challenge. Since not everyone will be available for every peak, Helen will set up a dedicated WhatsApp group for those doing the challenge to coordinate catch up hikes.

Please earmark the Saturday as an alternative hiking day in case of predicted poor weather on the Monday.

Bookings open 2 months before the hike. Bookings close the Saturday before the hike at 18h00. No smoking on the hike.
